The first rule of Maths club Always talk about Maths Club. |
Maths club is open to ALL students EVERY Tuesday from 3:15 to about 4:30.
It is based in The Study (L11), but on busy days we overflow into a number of other maths rooms. The advantage of L11 is all of the computers, as many students use MyMaths to support their learning.
Students come to maths club for a range of reason. Year 7 and 8 are often getting help with homework, or revising and practising work done in class. This is however by no means the only activity being engaged in; some students will be taking part in The National Cipher Challenge; a UK codebreaking competition that runs from September to January, and some will be taking part in other challenges, such as The Zendal Trilogy, starting with The Sorcerer's Apprentice.
By Year 9 students tend to (but not exclusively) be supporting and extending their learning, using MyMaths and other resources (both online, and paper based) to ensure that their levels at the end of Key Stage 3 are as good as they can be, as well as preparing for their functional maths exam at the end of year 9.
Many Year 10 students use maths club to help prepare for the GCSE Statistics. With record numbers taking this exam (99 in 2011, 130 in 2012) students can use Maths club to revise, and to work on their controlled assessment.
By Year 11 its all about GCSE Maths, with students using past papers, text books and MyMaths to better prepare for the final
Year 12 and 13 are also regular attenders on a Tuesday, but we also offer Thursdays after school for those doing AS and A2 exams, whether that is Maths, Further Maths, or Statistics.
