How to Get an A* in Maths
"A* has been awarded at A level (but not at AS) to students cashing-in since Summer 2010. The general principle is that achievement at A2 should be recognised and so an A* will be awarded to students who achieve a grade A overall and 90% or more of the UMS on the A2 units (as an aggregate, not on each separate A2 unit).
However, since some Mathematics
combinations have three A2 units and some have two A2 units, the A* will be
awarded to students who have achieved a grade A overall (480 UMS or more) and
180 UMS or more on the total of their C3 and C4 units.
For Further Mathematics, A* will
be awarded to students who have achieved a grade A overall (480 UMS or more)
and 270 UMS or more on their best three A2 units (whether pure or
applications units)."
Grade Calculators
As you get towards your final exams in year 12 or 13 you will want to know how many marks you'll need on modules to get the grades you want. Here are some tools to help:- All Grade Boundaries. A spreadsheet with grade boundaries for EVERY MODULE from January 2001 to the most recent exams.
- AQA AS Statistics Grade Boundaries. These are for the Y10 and 11 Students doing the AS Statistics course, to use with the Score Converter below.
- Score converter: Use this to type in the grade boundaries, and your mark out of 75. It will turn your mark into a UMS out of 100.
- AS Calculator. For an AS student, put your known / estimated UMS in here, and see what you still need to get (3 Units)
- A2 Calculator: As above, but for a full A level, with 6 modules.
- Record your marks on our formYrs 12-13.
